With its generous beer garden and fun-filled games and rumpus room, this inner-west pub brings all the hipster parents to its yard with its sense of fun. The Henson Hotel was for many years an abandoned, rotting shell of a pub hidden in the backstreets of Marrickville. But with one hell of a refurb it’s now one of the most family-friendly watering holes in the Inner West.
As well as growing a lot of its own herbs, lettuce and citrus fruits in the beer garden, the kitchen sources most of the produce locally. Likewise, the coffee is from Mecca, while Newtown’s Young Henry’s has quickly become the number one beer on tap.
With a community feel that goes a lot further than a drink, The Henson reinvents the inner west pub scene with a great menu, affable venue and a local behind the bar.
Children are a big part of visiting The Henson. There is dedicated pram parking, safety fencing, plenty of high chairs and a kids’ menu featuring that is more inventive and healthy than most, with ”real” fish and chips, tempura chicken nuggets, chocolate crackles and inventive milk shakes.
There are high chairs, a small climbing wall, ball pit, Pacman and Big Buck Hunter machines and a Mr Men mural. And in the unlikely case your kids are unimpressed with all that, they also sell kids activity packs for $4 each.
10 minute walk from Marrickville Station, or a very short walk from Marrickville Rd and Addison Rd buses.
Street parking only, but is not too difficult to find in this mostly residential area.
