Talulah is an upmarket restaurant, cafe and bar in the middle of Newcastle, New South Wales, that prides itself on its beautiful food and amazing service. Inside this cosy little eatery, you’ll feel at home surrounded by the eclectic collection of homewares and accessories, while you enjoy the latest offerings from the kitchen and bar.
Talulah is located on Glebe St, The Junction, in Newcastle, New South Wales. The café is right on the main street of The Junction, surrounded by many other shops and restaurants, so it shouldn’t be hard to find. There is a fair bit of parking in the area, but the spots closest to the shops go quickly, and most of them are only 1-hour spots. There is a parking lot on Kenrick st, just around the corner from the café that has some 3-hour spots available, so if you’re looking to stay longer, try to get a spot in there.
The menu at Talulah is seasonal, so it tends to change a bit throughout the year to accommodate the conditions in Newcastle. This is also done to make sure they use the local produce that is available to them in the best way. For breakfast, the Buckwheat pancakes are always on the menu, and they are a must if you’re a pancake lover. However, if you’re after a savory breakfast, then you can’t go past any of their egg dishes. For Autumn, they have their Autumn Morning Spread, with sautéed mushrooms and ‘black forrest’ bacon, which is to die for, and just what you need on a cool Autumn morning.
For lunch, the gourmet feast continues, with some salads, burgers and chips, and even some tacos on the menu. Some of the breakfast dishes are also offered all day, so if you want eggs and bacon in the afternoon, you can have it at Talulah.
At night, the restaurant takes on a more Tapas style vibe, with most of the mains on offer made for sharing. You can start off with something as small as some soft tacos or a salad, and then make your way to something heavier, like the potato gnocci or the lamb rump. The choice is yours and you’ll definitely have a hard time deciding, because all of it looks so good.
Most of the meals range from $15 – $30, which is expected in this type of eatery, but you will not be disappointed once you take your first bite. There are also plenty of sides, deserts, coffees and beverages on offer all day, so you can add whatever you like to your meal. Gluten free and vegetarian options are also available.
Dogs are also welcomed in the outdoor section of the premises, so if you’re a local, you can bring your furry friend along for some pats and some love. They might even get a feature on the café’s Instagram page!
