The local outpost for St. Ali Coffee Roasters, you will find the St. Ali Cafe in South Melbourne in a slightly out of the way converted warehouse that those in the know will go out of their way to find.
Stylish, industrial and with an undeniable Melbourne flavour, dedicated coffee connoisseurs flock here for their caffeine hits. Everyone else, comes for the impressive latte art (side note their Barista has been crowned the best in Australia).
And the food gets high praise too – from both health nuts and sleep deprived parents in need of a higher than usual calorie intake to get through the day. Not content with the usual avocado smash, the kitchen presents brunchers with the avocado Scotch egg: a slow egg inside an avocado, cooked in a cornmeal rosemary crumb and the signature dish ‘My Mexican Cousin’ has been on the menu for as long as anyone can remember, but is still as good as the day it was created. It’s a combination of corn fritters with poached eggs, grilled halloumi, corn & cucumber salsa, spicy tomato puree, and green salad. You will also see a regular stream of vanilla and maple quinoa puddings leaving the kitchen topped with finger lime, shaved coconut, boysenberries and baby basil. And I’ve heard on good authority from the dad’s that the signature steak sanga with Rangers Valley Wagyu, smoked onion, horseradish mayonnaise, baby beetroot and oozy gruyère cheese is a must try.
