La Barrita Kingscliff

Nestled in between Fins and Bombay Cricketers Club in Salt Village Kingscliff, La Barrita opened in December 2017, slipping quietly onto the tail end of the ‘Mexican wave’ of coastal openings.

It’s not a full exploration of Mexican flavours, nor do we experience the mind-numbing heat of some Mexican dishes. Rather, it’s a fresh simple take on Mexican food that Aussies love using local ingredients that zing with flavour. From fresh slices of luscious marinated fish in the Ceviche to Pescador Taco, corn chip-crusted fish with a fresh mango salsa and chilli lime dressing where you can eat the bowl, each dish sings with flavour.

And if you are lucky enough to have a kid free night La Barrita offers an extensive tequila selection (90+!) and plenty of delicious cocktails to choose from made with local produce.

Kids will be kept happy too

The Kids Menu options at La Barrita are some of the best I’ve seen. Exemplifying a keep it simple mantra, there isn’t a hot chip in sight. The kids grazing plate is particularly impressive and will appeal to even the fussiest of eaters.

MUMOKI Mama Tip

La Barrita does book out, and even though walk-ins are welcome, you might not get a spot, so do call if you want to dine in. Alternatively, you can always get your meals as takeaway to take back to your hotel or even have a picnic in the park across the road.

A welcome and unexpected find after having eaten nothing but restaurant food for a week and only confronted with kids menus that featured the same old hot chip options. My son even sat there and proclaimed what a delicious dinner it was!
