Once a metal box factory, 16 Great Guildford Street now plays home to Hixter Bankside – the little sister to Tramshed in Shoreditch. Paying homage to the original space, the design accentuates the natural features of floor to ceiling windows and metal and brick-work, whilst adorning the walls are neons and hanging art by both renowned and up-and-coming British artists – such as Mat Collishaw, Tracey Emin, Tim Noble and Gary Webb.

Serving large shareable portions of salt-aged steak, roast Lancashire chicken, and other hearty fare, the restaurant is a smart stop-off for hungry museumgoers. Thankfully, owner Mark Hix believes children’s dishes should be as much of a treat as mum and dad’s with tempting meals for under-tens are free at lunchtimes.
