If you weren’t looking for Amangiri there’s a good chance you wouldn’t find it. A pocket of understated modernist luxury in a wild and wind-carved Utah landscape Amangiri hotel is a sleek sandstone hideaway at the heart of Navajo country – not the place you’d expect to find an incredible spa, excellent restaurant and every-whim-met indulgence. Think white stone walls, natural tones and textures, simple clean lines, crisp linens and my favourite, size appropriate bathrobes and slippers for the entire family.

It’s the ultimate interiors inspiration for when you want to strip it all back and get some clarity.

LOCATION

Amangiri is at the heart of the Grand Circle and within easy reach of some of the continents most magnificent protected areas including the Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Zion National Park and Monument Valley.

The Rooms

There is everything on offer here. Private residences to understated luxury suites. One thing you can be certain of is that EVERY option offers spectacular views and the most stunning interiors. Think white stone walls, natural tones and textures, simple clean lines, crisp linens and my favourite, size appropriate bathrobes and slippers for the entire family.

To Do

Contact the activities team before your visit to get a clear understanding of what is on offer and they will put together a curated itinerary based around your family’s needs and budget. Do not be discouraged to visit if your children’s ages don’t meet most of the activities offered. The pool is where they will most likely want to be, plus there are trails across the property that you can walk and explore with no guides.

Amangiri have an in-house guide service for all adventures where everything can be customised to your family needs. For example they have a wonderful archeology/nature program for kids; Digging for Dinosaurs

For the more adventurous in both skills and age, one of the highlights of staying in this unique resort is the world-class hiking and rock-climbing. Book a guided via ferrata excursion (Italian for ‘iron road’): there are five of these fixed climbing routes involving ladder rungs on Amangiri’s own mountain-sprinkled grounds.

The swimming pool has steps, shallow waters and toys on request.

Kids will also enjoy the games and books in the library as well as cooking s’mores under the stars at night.

Eating

The Pavilion is at the centre of this desert-surrounded bijoux resort and, here, breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in an open-plan dining room and intimate lounges. The tables spill out onto a terrace and the swimming pool. A small, curated menu of locavore fare feeds appetites small and large and changed regularly. Sample Southwest staples such as tortilla chips and salsa, bison burgers and seasoned fries and mushrooms topped with a fried egg and served in a cast-iron pan.

Be sure to call ahead of time for dinner, as reservations are required.

A kids menu is available.

Babysitting

Say the word and a licensed babysitter can be booked.

Interesting Fact to teach the kids

Amangiri is derived from the Sanskrit words for peace (aman) and mountain (giri). The resort is tucked into a protected valley in the heart of the Grand Circle. Situated on 243 hectares (600 acres) in Canyon Point, Southern Utah, Amangiri is surrounded by some of North America’s most breathtaking scenery.

Out & About Baby Tip

Kim Kardashian West stayed here recently! The 37-year-old stayed at five-star Amangiri making it perfect for a peaceful desert retreat, an adrenaline-fuelled adventure, or a little celeb spotting. Clearly there’s more to this Instagram-worthy luxury resort than just the luminous canyons of the American Southwest.
