How to entertain a Toddler while pregnant

Dear Laura,

I have an energetic 3.5yr old and at 39 weeks pregnant, and I just can’t keep up with him. Any suggestions on activities I can do with him today? I’m based in Sydney and happy to pay for them as long as I don’t have to be too active myself! – Michelle

Hi Michelle,

Holey moley! Power to you Mumma! Just incase no one has told you this today, you are a freaking superstar!

Here are some of my favourite places to entertain energetic toddlers in and around Sydney that will still let you put your feet up (or at least walk slowly).

Nubo, Alexandria

Nubo was created out of the belief that adults and children are equally as important. The space’s design allows adults to interact with their children as they read, create, build, climb and taste, or enjoy some quiet time away from their everyday duties whilst observing meaningful play from a safe distance. At 39 weeks pregnant, the reading nooks might be particularly appealing.

Hide & Seek, Leichhardt

Hide & Seek café combines fresh healthy food with child devoted secure play areas, as well as classes, to stand out as a truly family centred cafe.

Kinder Café, Castle Hill

At Kinder Café you can sit back and have a coffee and use the wifi to do some life admin, while your little one enjoys group activities classes like kids yoga, Zumba, hip hop, or arts and crafts.

Jungle Buddies, Five Dock

Jungle Buddies is a play centre on steroids. Equipment includes slides, obstacles, fun air cannons and a trampoline offering a fun challenge to the big kids and there’s also a dedicated baby and toddler area.

Also…

Another great idea if you haven’t been already might be to take your toddler to the Wiggles exhibition at the Powerhouse Museum. It’s just had a bit of a refresh and if he loves the big red car and Wags the Dog as much as my little guy does then he will be in heaven.

As an alternative, have you thought about getting a babysitter or someone in to take your little guy on a play date? It might be good to check out the Motherhood app – it’s a bit like an on demand nanny service with a twist connecting mums in your local area for trustworthy childminding. Follow the prompts to create a job, then review the applications you receive and hire the best Minder. Might be worth checking out.

There is a lot to be said for letting yourself watch Romy & Michelle’s High School Reunion with a cup of tea and a Tim Tam when you are 39 weeks.

Good Luck!
