Hospital Bag Beauty Kit

The countdown is on and you are expecting your new arrival to make an appearance any day now. Your nesting skills have been honed down to a fine art, you have been through and watched everything on your saved Netflix list and your freezer is stocked with meals so what do you do now? Our advice, is make sure your hospital bag is kitted out with the hardest working, double duty beauty products you can find.

Fresh from having my second child, these are the best low maintenance beauty products I packed in my hospital bag to keep my skin looking fresh, healthy, breakout free and hydrated.

Lanolips 101 Ointment

An icon on the Australian beauty scene, Lanolips, or Lano as it’s affectionately called by some, is the holy grail of lanolin products with the cool girl factor turned up to high. The brand is renowned for its multi-purpose balms, tinted lip products and hero ingredient of hospital grade Lanolin (derived from sheep’s wool), but the OG 101 Ointment is what I took to hospital with me. Reason being, is that it’s multipurpose and works hard just just on your lips to keep them hydrated in all the hospital air conditioning, but it’s also great on sore grazed nipples, and dry cuticles.

Jojoba Company 100% Natural Ultimate Jojoba Youth Potion

I actually skipped packing a day and night cream for my face and instead went straight for an intensely hydrating oil. This one by The Jojoba Company is like a multi-vitamin for the skin. Combining the qualities of 100% natural Australian jojoba with potent antioxidants, vitamins and essential fatty acids to include the full spectrum of vitamins (A, B, C, D, E & F) and essential fatty acids 3, 6 and 9. It is also infused with potent antioxidants including CoQ10 and vitamin E rich argan oil to provide protection to the skin against free radical damage which is a major cause of the appearance of aging skin; vitamin C rich baobab (native to Australia) and camellia oils to assist the stimulation of collagen production; vitamin A rich baobab and camellia oils to aid the skin renewal process along with meadowfoam to form a moisture barrier on the skin to prevent moisture loss and antibacterial manuka oil.

Payot Brume Eclat Hydrating Mist

Formulated without alcohol, this hydrating mist protects your skin from pollution and can be used in the morning under your day cream to wake up and stimulate the skin, over your make-up to set your look, over the course of the day to refresh, hydrate and protect your skin from pollution OR in the evening before your night cream to intensify its regenerative properties. In a hospital setting, it’s the perfect pick me up when you are feeling a little dull and need a sweet smelling wake up call. You can find Payot in most salons and day spas. If you find it is a bit hard to get your hands on Jurlique’s Rosewater Balancing Mist is also a great substitute.

Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Serum Mini

It’s the one product I’ve been dedicated to using every single day for maybe the last 3 years and I immediately notice a change in my skin for the worse the second I run out. The serum works to slow down the look of premature ageing, reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles, and improve the evenness of skin tone. It is oil and fragrance-free, non-acnegenic, dermatologically and opthalmologically tested.

Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Cream

It’s full name is the Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Supercharged Complex Synchronized Recovery (phew that’s a mouthful) but it’s essentially an eye gel cream that helps prevent and repair the impact of major skin damaging assaults including lack of sleep (tick for motherhood), UV, pollution, and exposure to blue light at night.

IT Cosmetics CC Cream

It’s a new addition to my beauty arsenal and now I’m never going a day without it. Hospital or not. Wether you are going to a tropical island, skiing the slopes or sitting in a hospital bed, the formula ensures you are glowing, hydrated and protected from UVA and UVB in one easy step. It’s constantly sold out for a reason. Find it at Sephora.

RMS Beauty Lip2Cheek

A favourite among supermodels from Karlie Kloss to Gisele Bundchen, RMS is an institution in the all natural beauty world. The Lip2Cheek pot is perfect for a low key flush of colour that you can simply apply with just your fingers.  The formulations are pure and leaves a subtle, radiant finish that will have people thinking it’s your natural glow. Shop it at Mecca Cosmetica.

Bio-Oil

Every pregnant woman’s best friend, I used Bio-Oil throughout both my pregnancies and in the weeks following and haven’t got a single stretch mark. It’s formula contains a combination of plant extracts and vitamins suspended in an oil base. These ingredients contain skin renewing and conditioning properties, assisting in increasing elasticity, promoting the formation of new collagen and smoothing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. And despite being an oil, it is non-greasy, easy to apply and readily absorbed into the skin.

Lancome Absolue Cleansing Oil-in-Gel

This hydrating cleanser is a sumptuous gel that transforms into a silky oil, to gently nurture the skin and remove dirt, sweat, impurities and makeup. And it smells like roses!

TRESemme Moisture Rich Shampoo and Conditioner Travel Size Minis

Trust me when I say, no one expects you to have your hair blow dried while in hospital. Depending on how long you are expecting your stay to last, a simple, no fuss shampoo and conditioner combo in a mini size is all you need and this one contains Vitamin E to help restore vibrancy and makes dry, damaged hair soft without weighing it down.  Then just towel dry off and let it dry naturally. If your stay is slightly shorter and you are hoping to get home asap, then a good dry shampoo like this one by Bastiste is all you will need.

Dr Jart Ceremidin Body Cream and Hand Cream Mini Set

Dr Jart is a Korean skincare brand I was introduced to by the team at Sephora. The cold temperatures, low humidity, and dry air in hospitals can strip your skin of moisture so I packed the body cream and hand cream travel set because they smelt good and are super rich. If you are having trouble getting your hands on it, then check out the Lanolips Everywhere Multi-Cream is also fantastic and can literally be used everywhere.

Appelles Apothecary Body Wash

I recently stayed at Peppers Salt in Kingscliff and discovered this brand in the hotel room we were in and it smelt so nice that obviously I grabbed a spare to keep for for my hospital bag.  This one is enriched with Sweet Orange essential oil which is known to assist with circulation and help to soothe dry or irritated skin while Geranium effectively revitalises the skin and Blackcurrant is rich in essential fatty acids that encourage hydration.
