About Us

Our Story.

It all started with our search for clean baby change rooms in locations that served really good coffee and avocado on toast. For the answer, we travelled far and wide, drank a lot of coffee, changed a lot of nappies, breastfed in strange places and talked endlessly to our mothers’ group. That’s when we launched Mumoki – the first family friendly directory of it’s kind on the web. But as our children have grown and changed, so too has the business. So beyond just a directory to get out and about, our mission has become to build a website that cultivates a more meaningful community both on and offline in an increasingly lonely and stressful world.

Enter Mumoki.

We can tell you 101 uses for baby wipes and tell you the difference between a Baby Bjorn and an Ergo Baby. We take our kids everywhere and aren’t ashamed to do so. And we have the highest of standards when it comes to what makes a really good pram.

We can also tell you first hand how challenging it can be to adjust to the demands of being a new parent. With mental health issues rising and rates of loneliness increasing in a society that’s “always on,” we believe that taking a break and cultivating friendships is a crucial part of what wellness means for parents, whether that means getting in some “me time” with a good book, getting out of the house and grabbing a coffee, or rounding up friends for a fun girls’ night out.

The statistics.

Somewhere in the world a new baby is born every 3 seconds. And of all of those parents, 1 in 5 new mums and 1 in 10 new dads will suffer from Postnatal Depression or Anxiety. That’s 100,000 Australians each year.

Beyond this, with the recent studies around Postnatal Depletion by Australian Dr. Oscar Serrallach, it is estimated that 50% of mothers will have some degree of postnatal depletion which can last even 10 years after the birth of a child.

MUMOKI aims to help support the emotional wellbeing of mothers, encourage conversations around the issue of PND, as well as provide positive prevention tips and tricks for those those considered at risk.

We want to tackle the stigma associated with struggling with parenthood as well as encourage social interaction and cultivate meaningful friendships both on and offline.

Our Philosophy: Parents are people first.

Despite the feeling that you might just be a milkmaid or the hired help, we believe that you come first. So go for a walk, get out of the house, catch up with your friends and grab some lunch/coffee/wine.

Your family will be at it’s best, when you are at your best.

Trust us, we're you.

Geeking out over kids is fun, and we’re lucky to have a community of likeminded parents who get it. Together we represent a powerful tribe of parents and carers of children, and that makes us very special. We’re raising the future and you’re in good company.

We also represent a revolution against mummy shaming and isolation. Being a parent does not mean you are never allowed a life again. We think everybody should be able to enjoy parenthood, without feeling isolated and ashamed.

We’re the online community and brand that wants to be friends with you—mostly because we’re not so much a brand as we are real people over here just trying to rethink parenthood and have a good time doing it.

So send us an email to hello@mumoki.com and say Hi! We would love to get to know you more.
